Our innovations in nutritional biochemistry, data science and digital tools combined with our clinical expertise are shifting the diabetes treatment paradigm from management to reversal. As a Director of Engineering for infrastructure at Virta, you will be in charge of creating the infrastructure that can help our company move as fast as possible while meeting any requirements around scalability and compliance. Our infrastructure team includes everything from the development environments our engineers use to develop code, to how we develop and run microservices in Kubernetes, to how do we keep uptime and performance high. We are in the midst of re-defining what our infrastructure should be for our next stage of growth, and you would be the leader working closely with the Head of Engineering to define and drive that vision.


  • Manage, support, and mentor engineers
  • Implement practices for team happiness, productivity, and performance
  • Define roles; recruit, interview, and hire engineers
  • Define and deliver quality and performance KPIs for team and infrastructure
  • Collaborate with other managers to define technology and hiring strategy

90-Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will do the following:

  • Obtain a full understanding of Virta’s growing infrastructure
  • Work with your team, the head of engineering, and your peers, to plan 1-2 significant infrastructure projects aligned with business needs
  • Ensure Virta has the infrastructure needed to achieve HITRUST certification 
  • Establish strong working relationships with Virta’s engineering teams to understand and support their requirements
  • Interview and hire engineers for your team


  • 2-4 years of experience managing engineering teams
  • Experience defining roles, recruiting, interviewing, and closing candidates
  • Experience mentoring engineers and helping them with career development plans
  • Experience managing for performance and dealing with difficult situations
  • Well versed in system architecture and able to provide technical guidance to teams

Bonus Points For...

  • Deep expertise in system design or operations, data stores, and web development
  • Experience working in a regulated environment (HIPAA preferred; SOX, PCI also good)
  • Experience managing or working on distributed teams
  • A strong network
