User Experience Research Lead at Virta Health

Virta is the first company with a clinically-proven treatment to safely and sustainably reverse type-2 diabetes without the use of medications or surgery. Our innovations in nutritional biochemistry, data science and digital tools combined with our clinical expertise are shifting the diabetes treatment paradigm from management to reversal. Our mission: reverse type 2 diabetes in 100 million people by 2025.

In this role you will create and lead the user experience research function at Virta, a company in which being user centric is core to our mission. In order to succeed at reversing type 2 diabetes in 100 million people, Virta needs to deeply understand the diverse population we serve. Our patient population ranges widely, including office workers and retired veterans, across a wide range of ages and geographic locations.

In addition to researching the attitudes and behaviors of our patients, you will also spend time researching the people who take care of our patients: clinicians, health coaches, and support teams. Technology in healthcare is in its emerging stage, you will help define best practices, interfaces, and flows for the future of diabetes treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the user research function at Virta! Create the way the function operates and communicates with the company
  • Plan, recruit, prepare, and run user research sessions with patients and clinicians
  • Create analysis from research sessions
  • Communicate your analysis and suggestions to the product development teams as well the wider company
  • Leverage our data science and analytics tools and team to understand our user population quantitatively
  • Highlight best practices in user research and usability to the product development teams

90 Day Plan

Within your first 90 days at Virta, we expect you will:

  • Become familiar with ongoing initiatives and past user research at Virta
  • Identify the highest priority user research opportunities
  • Understand our current product offerings
  • Work closely with the product development team on something you’ve researched
  • Educate and inform best practices around user research for the whole company

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, or relevant work experience
  • 5+ years in an UX researcher role
  • Experience with user research beyond digital interfaces. Examples include: service design, education design, healthcare
  • Experience with both qualitative and quantitative research methods and knowing when to apply them (usability testing, interviewing, surveys, diary studies, focus groups)
  • Comfortable preparing and running user interviews
  • Experience creating user centered design programs and pushing UCD culture
