Position Description

Ayar Labs, the global leader in optical I/O chiplets, is harnessing silicon photonics to revolutionize the scaling of AI compute hardware. Backed by industry giants like NVIDIA, AMD and Intel and manufactured in partnership with the world’s leading semiconductor ecosystem, Ayar Labs’ co-packaged optics solution is key to unleashing next-generation AI scale-up architectures.

You will design devices enabling next-generation wavelength-division-multiplexing systems, including advanced passive and tunable optical filters. Leveraging our mature test capabilities and rich pipeline of previously taped-out devices, you will identify promising future directions, craft optimized exploratory submissions, and support selection of devices for our next high-impact product PIC.


Intern Skillset Needed
  • Proficiency with Python
  • Experience writing well-structured code and developing a code base as part of a team
  • Deep understanding of photonic devices: couplers, micro-ring resonators, gratings
  • Experience with simulation and design tools for optical devices (e.g., FDTD)

Education Requirements
  • Candidate should be actively pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering or other Engineering with Photonics specialization
Pay Range: $50 - 60/hourly, depending on education level
