Founded and based in Richmond, BC, Ideon Technologies uses the energy from supernova explosions in space to image deep beneath the Earth’s surface. The world pioneer in cosmic-ray muon tomography, Ideon has developed the REVEAL™ Subsurface Intelligence Platform™, comprising an advanced suite of proprietary data-generation hardware, software, AI-powered services, and multi-physics fusion that provide x-ray-like visibility deep underground and unlock the exponential power of integrated spatial data.

By transforming muon data into reliable 3D density maps, Ideon helps geologists identify, map, characterize, and monitor mineral deposits with confidence. This reduces risk and cost of traditional methods, while saving time, optimizing return, and minimizing environmental impact across the mining value chain. In turn, this is helping accelerate the world’s transition to low-impact mining and transform how companies recover the critical minerals required to power the global shift to clean energy – improving peoples’ lives and enhancing economic prosperity.

We are a dynamic tech scale-up of 80 employees (and growing!). We are a team that is entrepreneurial by nature and focused on doing things right to deliver great customer outcomes. And we are committed to seeking out the best brains and the most exceptional humans, wherever they come from and however they happen to be packaged.

The Role

We are seeking an Indonesia-based on-site Site Intelligence Lead, Grasberg, to represent Ideon’s technology and operations at the PTFI Grasberg block caving mine. This role works closely with PTFI’s cave management, operations, geotechnical, and mine planning teams to ensure Ideon’s muon tomography solutions are effectively integrated into daily workflows and deliver ongoing operational value.

The position is operationally focused, requiring a strong understanding of underground block caving environments, site constraints, and decision-making processes. Rather than acting as a traditional mining engineer or hands-on installer, the role centers on coordination, translation, and stewardship - bridging site teams with Ideon’s technical and operations teams, aligning our technology outputs with site priorities and finding new ways muon tomography can support risk management and decision-making. This role will also oversee equipment readiness and logistics, and ensure safe, compliant execution of Ideon activities on site.

You will report to the VP, Operations, and work in a team setting with the Operations Team.

You will impact and drive Ideon’s objectives forward by focusing on the following activities:

On‑Site Representation & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as Ideon’s on‑site representative at the Grasberg block caving operation and engage professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Act as the first point of contact for site‑based users of Ideon’s technology. Maintain a visible and trusted site presence aligned with PTFI’s operational priorities and ways of working.

Operational Integration & Value Delivery

  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of block caving and sub-level caving operations, including production, draw control, cave propagation, geotechnical risks, and planning cycles.
  • Ensure Ideon’s technology outputs are aligned with site priorities, operational realities, and decision‑making needs.
  • Proactively identify opportunities where muon tomography can support improved risk management, cave understanding, or operational decision‑making.

Technology Coordination & Model Oversight

  • Coordinate the ongoing use of Ideon’s technology on site, ensuring models, interpretations, and outputs remain current and operationally relevant.
  • Communicate site requirements, constraints, and feedback to Ideon’s technical and product teams to support continuous improvement.

Equipment Coordination

  • Coordinate detector installations, relocations, and re‑positioning activities in collaboration with PTFI, site contractors, and Ideon’s Technical Solutions, Geoscience, and Operations teams.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and preventative maintenance activities with respect to detectors installed on site.
  • Ensure equipment movements are planned, approved, and executed in alignment with site access, schedules, permits, and safety requirements.
  • Monitor and report on instrument status, maintaining high-performance uptime in coordination with Ideon’s technical teams and organizing on-site interventions as required.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Act as Ideon’s on‑site Health and Safety representative at the Grasberg operation, promoting a strong safety culture and adherence to PTFI and Ideon standards.
  • Participate in relevant safety meetings, risk assessments, audits, and incident reviews as required.

Communication & Continuous Improvement

  • Document use cases, lessons learned, and best practices to support future deployments at Grasberg and other sites.

Success in the role looks like:

  • Equipment coordination and uptime: You coordinate the people, tools and approvals for detector installations, relocations and repositioning, and keep things running efficiently. You handle basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on your own, escalate when needed, and keep instrument uptime high.
  • Health & Safety: You bring a safety-first mindset and lead by example. You spot and address risks early, and go beyond compliance to strengthen the safety culture on site and within the wider Ideon team.
  • Trust and communication: You’re trusted by stakeholders on site, both at PTFI and within Ideon. You keep Ideon’s teams informed about what’s happening on site and share feedback that helps us improve.
  • Operational understanding: You understand block and sub-level caving operations well enough to make sure Ideon’s outputs stay relevant and useful for site decisions.
  • Beyond coordination: Using your well-developed operational understanding, investigate further ways Ideon can support PTFI's decisions. Converse with a wide net of stakeholders at site to capture gaps, potential use cases, and opportunities to deepen the relationship.

Priorities in the first few months will include:

  • Understanding Ideon’s technology, its limitations and outputs, and deliverables.
  • Building relationships with Ideon team members via a trip to Ideon HQ.
  • Getting up to speed with the current project status at PTFI.
  • Developing a deep understanding of Ideon deployment procedures and methodology.
  • Completing all required training and inductions for site access.
  • Building working relationships with all relevant customers and external stakeholders.
  • Gaining autonomy at site: driving permit, access to data, software, file systems.

Qualifications

Must-haves – You’ll need the following to move forward in the hiring process (and be successful in the role).

  • 15+ years of experience working on active mine sites alongside owner/operator teams.
  • Diploma or degree in mining engineering, geotechnical engineering, geoscience, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience in underground mining operations (preferably block or panel caving), working on active mine sites alongside owner/operator teams.
  • Experience operating and maintaining site-based technical systems, monitoring technologies, or decision-support tools.
  • Familiarity with site logistics, access coordination, and working within operational constraints.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a safety-critical, high-accountability environment.
  • Current valid Indonesian driver’s license.
  • Enthusiasm for AI-enabled work with the critical thinking to question results and enhance as needed.
  • Well-developed communication skills in English at a fluent or professional level; able to be assertive and respectful.
  • Legally able and currently documented to work full-time hours in Indonesia.

We also look for the following from all new Ideon team members:

  • Experience in or excitement for working in a tech scale-up; happy to wear a few hats and adjust on the fly.
  • An ambitious, can-do attitude; you get that we’re doing challenging work and are excited to dive in.
  • Enthusiastic and confident to take initiative and be adaptable in an agile, fast-paced environment.
  • Solid teamwork skills; you’re accountable to yourself and your team and will jump in to help where you can.
  • Creative solutioning mindset with great problem-solving skills.
  • Insatiable curiosity paired with a drive to deliver.
  • Able to work well under pressure and to meet committed deadlines.
  • Great interpersonal skills; able to build relationships with colleagues, customers, and external stakeholders.
  • Able to contribute something “extra” to our culture beyond the work that you do, like wowing people with your home-baked goods, sharing improv comedy skills, or organizing sports games.

Nice-to-haves – While it would be nice to if you had some of the below, we’re happy to train, coach and share our experience.

  • Experience with geophysical datasets.
  • Experience using Deswik, mXrap, and other commonly used software tools.
  • Project management experience, especially coordinating equipment installations or technical projects on an operating mine site.
