Our Terran Program team guides and knits together the efforts of our whole Vehicle Development team in order to deliver a working launch vehicle. We work with subsystem experts in every group to make sure we’re designing for smooth integration and we help planning and executing verification and test activities at the stage and vehicle level.
The Mission/Outcomes and Objectives
The Integrated Test Engineer’s mission is to plan and execute the testing that gives us confidence that the vehicle will perform correctly in flight. You will work with subsystem owners to determine what testing is required and design and build and specialized tools or equipment that are needed. You will write detailed procedures and implement automation to make sure we operate the vehicle safely and efficiently in every operation. Integrated Test Engineers will run test operations and operate test consoles to control the vehicle and ground systems needed for all kinds of checkout testing: channelization checkouts, functional checks of all onboard systems, leak checks etc. Finally, you will make sure data is properly stored and post processed for use in troubleshooting, verification and model anchoring.
To be successful in this role, you should be a hands on test engineer, comfortable with running a test crew through hazardous operations. You should have experience writing and executing detailed, step by step procedures with multiple test operators. You will need hands on experience with common test equipment such as multi-meters, process calibrators and fluid components like pressure reducing regulators. You should have some experience configuring and deploying data acquisition systems, and experience automating operations and processing large data files. You should be a strong troubleshooter across multiple disciplines, so you can help subsystem owners understand problems and root causes quickly.
Minimum Required Skills and Competencies
- B.S in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 1+ years of experience testing electronics, high pressure gas systems, hydraulics or similar systems
- Familiarity with 3D CAD packages such as Creo, NX or solid works
- Experience writing simple scripts for automation or data processing.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Experience planning and running hazardous operations
- Experience authoring GUI screens and automating complex test operations
- Experience with NX/TeamCenter
