Job Summary:

PsiQuantum (PsiQ) will hire a senior engineer to develop Photonics Integration Circuits (PIC’s) powering quantum computers.  Supervised by the PIC Platform Engineering Leader, the individual will closely work with optical component design teams, ensuring design for (PIC) integration, DfM, DfT and so on.  Through joint development with our foundry and packaging engineering teams, the PIC team will design PIC’s and deploy through semiconductor fabrication, test, verification and  packaging.  The hired candidate will analyze data, make recommendations for design and manufacturing and support system integration to a quantum computer.

A successful candidate will have demonstrated competence in PIC design, optical component verification, optical circuit validation and teamwork, with adjacent skills in semiconductor fabrication, test and packaging, and system integration.  She or he will embrace our vision for a truly useful quantum computer and thrive in a startup environment focused on bringing this computer to market.

Responsibilities:

  • Photonic Integrated Circuit and Component design.
    • Optical transmission impairments, nonlinearities, XTalk, cascade filtering, Passive or Active photonic design.
  • Knowledge and judgement to tradeoff between PIC design, optical component design, manufacturing and testing.
  • Innovative (creative) problem solving when no good option seems available.
  • Knowledge of PIC fabrication process capabilities and PIC component design capabilities and ability to marry them.
    • Able to guide partners in foundry engineering in design/manufacturing cycle.
  • PIC manufacturing and validation data analyses.
    • Data driven conclusions and recommended actions.
  • Project engineering
    • Lead cross functional teams to satisfy project goals.
    • Effective communication across to peers as well as up and down the organization.
  • Bonus
    • Quantum optics.
    • Semiconductor operation at cryogenic temperatures.
    • Superconducting device operation.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Post graduate degree in Physics (optics), Electrical Engineering (optical engineering) or Materials Science.
  • 5+ years in engineering.
    • 2+ years hands-on in PIC environment.
  • Experience through photonic integrated circuit design, development and NPI.
  • Experience through product development and NPI to market introduction.
  • Several years work in a semiconductor fab or with the same.
  • Experience in or adjacent to semiconductor packaging processes.
  • Data Analysis software: Python, JMP.
  • Photonic, Thermal and Device Simulation: COMSOL, Lumerical or similar.
  • Bonus.
    • Cryogenics.
