Manufacturing Test Engineer at Ayar Labs
Santa Clara, CA, US
  • Create manufacturing processes and execute; e.g. SPC, Gage R&R, RCA, Document Control, etc. 
  • Build hardware and write scripts to automate manufacturing processes 
  • Design and build test systems with assistance from Test Development Engineers
  • Run parts through automated test systems, run experiments on individual parts
  • First line of defense in troubleshooting experiments and test systems
  • Basic programming: Find and fix simple bugs, simple modifications of existing code
  • Determine specifications required for equipment to meet test design, and procure equipment
  • Manage task and project schedules
  • Manage inventory of parts to test, shipments, and test lab supplies
  • Maintain schedules for preventative maintenance and calibration
  • Improve existing test systems and assist with new test development
The Manufacturing Test Engineer must work on-site. Ayar Labs maintains strict COVID safety policies that meet or exceed requirements posted by local government health offices. Occasional travel between the Emeryville, CA and Santa Clara, CA facilities may be required, with reimbursements in accordance with our Travel Policy.

Skills/Experience required:
  • BS in Photonics, Electronics, Applied Physics, or other relevant field
  • Scripting and basic programming, ready to pick up Python
  • Assembly of mechanical parts
  • “Rack-and-stack” electronic and/or optical instruments for test and measurement
  • Technical troubleshooting using scientific method
  • Using spreadsheets for information collection, calculations, and graphing
  • Writing technical documentation and reports, making slides for presentations
  • Evaluate electrical, thermal, mechanical, and optical problems from basic principles
  • Independently develop new skills required to solve problems
  • Maintain a well-organized work environment
  • Occasionally move equipment, up to 40 lbs, between racks or benches
Skills/Experience preferred:
  • Python experience
  • Soldering and electronic repair and assembly
  • Fiber optics and optics lab work
  • Skills/Experience also considered:
  • Experience with SolidWorks
  • PCB design
