Engineering Technician at Ayar Labs
Santa Clara, CA, US
  • Build test systems with direction from Engineering
  • Execute manufacturing processes; e.g. SPC, Gage R&R, RCA, etc.
  • Maintain schedules for preventative maintenance and calibration
  • Carefully document deviations from processes 
  • Rent/purchase equipment that meet specifications from Engineering, or fill a bill of materials
  • Find and document software bugs
  • Run parts through automated test systems, run experiments on individual parts
  • Manage inventory of parts to test, shipments, and test lab supplies
  • Improve existing test systems and assist with new test development
The Engineering Technician must work on-site. Ayar Labs maintains strict COVID safety policies that meet or exceed requirements posted by local government health offices. Occasional travel between the Emeryville, CA and Santa Clara, CA facilities may be required, with reimbursements in accordance with our Travel Policy.

Skills/Experience required:
  • Relevant certifications or AA
  • Use of electronic and/or optical instruments for test and measurement
  • Read, understand, and follow technical directions, e.g. instrument manuals or assembly instructions
  • Understanding of basic electrical, optical, thermal, and mechanical physical quantities
  • Using spreadsheet software to collect data and run basic calculations
  • Assembly of mechanical parts
  • Independently develop new skills required to solve problems
  • Maintain a well-organized work environment
  • Occasionally move equipment, up to 40 lbs, between racks, benches, carts, etc
Skills/Experience preferred:
  • Basic soldering and assembly of electronic components: cables, simple PCB
  • Experience with photonic and electronic test and measurement equipment
  • Experience with fiber optics practices and fiber optic devices
  • Working with mechanical engineer or draftsman to have simple parts machined
  • Skills/Experience also considered:
  • Experience scripting or simple programming
  • Using spreadsheet software for calculations and graphing
  • Creating presentations
  • CAD or drafting experience for submitting simple parts to machinist
